Rep. Simpson Supports National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON— Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson (R-ID) voted in favor of H.R. 2670 – the 2024 Fiscal Year National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The legislation authorizes $886.3 billion for national defense discretionary programs, which is $28 billion over the 2023 Fiscal Year enacted level. The bill will improve military readiness, equips our troops with the resources they need, shows strong support for our service members and their families, and deters foreign adversaries.

“The NDAA is a win for American military families and our national security,” said Rep. Simpson. “Congress has the responsibility to reauthorize defense programs that improve military readiness and strengthen the defense industrial base. Our troops work tirelessly to protect our national interests and everyday freedoms. I’m proud to honor the men and women in uniform by supporting this bill.”

Highlights of the bill include:

  • Supports a 5.2% increase in servicemember basic pay, the largest pay raise in over 20 years.
  • Saves taxpayers $40 billion or 5% of current defense spending levels by cutting inefficient defense programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy.
  • Restores the focus of our military on lethality.
  • Provides assistance to the 8,000 servicemembers discharged for failing to take the COVID-19 vaccine and gives them a path back to service.
  • Increases oversight and demands accountability from the Biden Administration.
