Congressman Simpson's Weekly Recap

September 17, 2023

Dear [salutation],

It has been a productive week here in Washington! We are back and in the swing of things. This week, I met with representatives from the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association to discuss their insights and concerns on the auto industry's future.

Speaking of automobiles, the House PASSED the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act. This legislation protects American's freedom when purchasing vehicles. You can read my full statement below.

In case you missed it: Check out my latest Community Project Funding op-ed on reconstructing Eagle Road in Fort Hall. The link to the op-ed is available below!

Idaho Automobile Dealers Association

The automobile industry is a fundamental part of Idaho's economy. Thank you to the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association for stopping by and sharing their insights on better serving the needs of Idaho auto buyers!

Preserving Choice in Vehicles Purchases Act

I voted in favor of the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act. This legislation modifies the waiver process under the Clean Air Act related to state emission control standards for new motor vehicles or new motor vehicles engines.

Preserving consumer choice is necessary to maintaining competition in the automotive markets. The proposal we’ve seen in California to ban the sale of vehicles with combustion engines would severely damage our automobile market and hurt American workers and jobs. This kind of heavy-handed government intervention sets a dangerous precedent, and I’m pleased to put a stop to it.

ICYMI: My Latest CPF Op-Ed

We can all agree that a safe and efficient transportation system is the backbone of a community.  But this kind of infrastructure is expensive, and local governments often struggle to foot the bill of building the systems needed to create jobs, grow the economy, and build strong communities.

That's why I secured funding for reconstructing Eagle Road in Fort Hall through Community Project Funding. This project is essential for improving the safety and economic development of the Fort Hall Reservation.
