Eight so-called “Republicans” worked with Democrats to oust Speaker McCarthy nearly three weeks ago. The eight had no plan after their destructive vote – instead, their actions have stalled our critical appropriations process, paralyzed the House’s legislative business, and left Republicans looking like we are incapable of governing.

This week, I released an op-ed in response to the Idaho Republican Party’s recent statement on the U.S. House of Representatives Speaker of the House vote.

My Statement on the Speaker Votes
 

I have publicly stated that I would support the Republican nominee who receives a majority of Republican votes. The Republican Conference went from supporting Speaker-Designee Scalise without giving Steve Scalise proper consideration on the House floor. I voted for Steve Scalise because he rightfully earned our conference nomination and deserved the opportunity to be considered before the full House of Representatives.


Congressman Jim Jordan did not earn my support on the House floor. I came to Congress to fight for Idahoans' priorities. I cannot – and will not – support a Speaker who has repeatedly taken positions against Idaho’s best interests.
