The Simpson Standard

November 5th, 2023

Dear [salutation],

It was a big week in the People's House! We considered and passed two more appropriations bills. One of which was my Fiscal Year 2024 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. As Chairman of this subcommittee, I thank Chairwoman Granger for her leadership, my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee, and the House for their support. I urge the Senate to take this bill up immediately, and I look forward to these policies getting signed into law.

My Republican colleagues and I are committed to reining in unnecessary spending and getting our economy back on track. Check out more below on my appropriations update for the week!

Interior and Environment Appropriations Bill PASSES the House

I am pleased to see the House pass my Interior and Environment Appropriations bill. As Chairman of this subcommittee, I vowed to create a bill that reduces unnecessary federal spending and prioritizes the critical needs and essential functions within these agencies.

This bill does just that by reining in the Environmental Protection Agency, fighting the misguided Obama-era WOTUS rule, fully funding the PILT program, and providing additional funding for essential wildfire activities.

FY24 Appropriations Update

House Republicans continued to move the ball forward this week, adding two more bills to the passed list. So far, the House has passed seven out of twelve single-subject appropriations bills.

  • Department of Defense
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs
  • Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies
  • Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies
  • Legislative Branch
  • Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies

Cutting government funding is never easy, and it can often be an ugly process. But our national debt is $33 trillion and growing at an unacceptable level. My colleagues from across the aisle refuse to address this fact and would rather continue their endless spending spree. The time to rein in spending is now - and Republicans have a plan to do just that.

ICYMI: I joined Hannity!

It was great attending Fox News's Capitol Hill town hall with Speaker Johnson

and many of my Republican colleagues this week. House Republicans had the opportunity to discuss our priorities for the remainder of the 118th Congress.

Our priorities include: passing fiscally conservative appropriations bills, reducing the national debt, and securing the border.

Thanks for hosting, Mr. Sean Hannity!
