It was a sad week for our country. The removal of Speaker McCarthy was an unprecedented political stunt that resulted in us losing critical time to work on our appropriations bills. Make no mistake - we must come together quickly as we approach another government shutdown deadline. You can read my full statement below.

Working for our men and women in uniform and those who have served our nation has been one of my top priorities in Congress. Last week, I cosponsored two pieces of legislation that put our veterans' interests first. Be sure to check out the legislation below!

Despite this week's unexpected events, the American people expect us to govern. I still have faith in the fundamental values of our nation and institution. The people of Idaho's Second District sent me to Washington to advance conservative principles and stand up against the Biden administration's failed policies. I will continue to fight for you.

My Statement on the Speakership Vote

I am deeply disappointed that eight House "Republicans" joined the entire Democratic Caucus to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.

Instead of using our limited time to work on critical appropriations bills, we watched a political, personal stunt unfold. A House divided cannot stand. And I urge my colleagues to elect a Speaker who will build on Speaker McCarthy's accomplishments, continue the momentum we led after taking the majority, and resume our important work for the American people.

Cosponsoring the Guard VA Benefits Act

Last week, I cosponsored the Guard VA Benefits Act. This legislation would penalize unaccredited entities for charging unauthorized fees for “helping” an individual who served in uniform file a disability claim.

Ensuring our Veterans and their families receive the support they need and deserve is a top priority of mine. It is deeply disappointing that people purposefully cheat our nation’s veterans out of their benefits.

These greedy individuals and practices who disrupt this process are shameful and un-American. The Guard VA Benefits Act protects our veterans and holds those predators accountable.

Cosponsoring the VET CARE Act

Our veterans deserve access to high-quality health care services – and that should include dental care.

The VET CARE Act empowers the VA to meet our nation’s heroes' needs and drives down the overall health care cost. As a former dentist, I am proud to cosponsor this legislation and expand access to dental care for our veterans.
