The Simpson Standard

October 1st, 2023

Dear [salutation],

Yesterday, I voted in favor of a short-term funding measure to keep our government open and working on behalf of the American people.

This stopgap funding measure will allow Congress to continue our work approving appropriations bills that secure the border, reduce government spending, and hold the Biden Administration accountable for their failed policies. Government shutdowns are never a good way to govern, and Members of Congress should not use them as a negotiation tactic.

I take my responsibility to Idahoans to promote responsible government spending seriously, but we cannot accomplish that goal if the federal government is shut down. This temporary stopgap measure will allow the House to continue our important work of enacting bills that get our economy on a sustainable, healthy path for the future.

Shutdowns are Bad Policy and Politics

Let me be clear - I do not support a government shutdown. When Congress fails to pass annual appropriations bills and the government shuts down, we lose momentum in getting federal spending under control and critical opportunities to change the direction of our country's public policy.

This week, I released op-ed on the harms of a potential government shutdown. You can read it below.

Meeting with Agri Beef

Idaho takes pride in beef production and supporting ranchers across the state. It was a pleasure meeting with Agri Beef to discuss livestock issues in the upcoming Farm Bill.

Thank you to Jay Theiler and Jayne Davis for stopping by!

Goodbye, National Potato Month!

Every month is National Potato Month for us in Idaho. But as September is now over, I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures!
