Floor Schedule | Committee Activity The Simpson StandardApril 6th, 2025 Dear [salutation], A lot of positive and productive news has come this week. Earlier this week, we learned that illegal border crossings hit a new low in March. President Trump's executive actions, supporting our brave border patrol agents, and passing laws like the Laken Riley Act have contributed significantly to this decrease. President Trump, House Republicans, and the American people understand that border security is national security. Additionally, this week, the Department of Justice announced that it will surge FBI assets across the country to address unresolved violent crimes in Indian Country, including crimes relating to missing and murdered Indigenous persons. Last year, I held a hearing on the importance of addressing this ongoing crisis. I fully support the DOJ and Attorney General Pam Bondi's efforts to help prevent and respond to these cases. In case you missed it: Last week, I announced that the Idaho Congressional Delegation will host our annual Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 12th. This event is excellent for young Idahoans and their families to learn about our nation's service academies. You can find more information below.

Border Security is National Security

For four years, the Biden administration’s open-border policies fueled crime, undermined public safety, and overwhelmed our federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. Americans demanded change in November, and one of the mandates we received was to secure our border.

With President Trump back in the Oval Office, we have a president prioritizing border security. Look at the numbers: 137,000 border crossings in March 2024 vs. 7,000 in March 2025. This is a 94% DECREASE.

Addressing the Ongoing MMIW Crisis

For too long, we have seen countless Indigenous women and girls who have been murdered or gone missing at a disproportional rate. That's why, last year, I held a House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee oversight hearing on the ongoing crisis. Our subcommittee heard testimonies from Tribal leaders and pressed relevant agency officials for answers.
