Simpson Demands Plan from Biden Administration to Return to Normal Life

Washington, D.C. – Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson joined more than 70 House of Representatives Republicans in sending a letter to President Biden and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra asking the Administration to take immediate action to present the American people with a plan for returning to pre-pandemic life.

“As the rate of new COVID-19 cases continues to fall, it is clear that federal mandates handed down by the Biden Administration are doing more harm than good,” said Simpson.  “This Administration has repeatedly told Americans to ‘just follow the science.’  It is now President Biden’s turn to ‘follow the science’ and develop a plan for our country to get back to normal life."

The letter, which outlines the harm caused to children, parents, business owners, hospitals, nursing homes, and others by the continuation of public health emergency (PHE) restrictions, demands that the Administration take the following actions:

  • “Establish a process with concrete goals and timelines for when and how we will exit the PHE;
  • “Identify all emergency measures, regulatory flexibilities, and related programs enacted during the PHE;
  • “Provide estimates of the projected costs to the federal government, any provisions necessary to address program integrity, any costs to states, and projected impact on patient health; and
  • “Identify any programs [the Administration] recommends making permanent, including those which can be made permanent through existing regulatory authorities.”
