Rep. Simpson Secures Treasure Valley Law Enforcement Childcare Center Funding

WASHINGTON— Today, the House Committee on Appropriations voted to advance the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies bill. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson highlighted the inclusion of the Treasure Valley Law Enforcement Childcare Center project at his request through Community Project Funding (CPF).

“Idaho is blessed with some of the best police officers in the nation,” said Rep. Simpson. “Unfortunately, many law enforcement families struggle to find accessible and affordable childcare options during their shifts, leaving many officers unable to continue serving. Constructing a childcare center is necessary for the needs of our local law enforcement. Idaho officers and their families deserve our support, and I’m thrilled this project is moving forward.”

“The National Law Enforcement Foundation is proud to partner with Representative Simpson on a Community Funded Project to bring customized childcare and early childhood education for law enforcement in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. We are honored to work alongside him on innovative solutions to the nation’s police recruiting and retention crisis with tangible tools to address this,” said Jim Mackay, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Foundation.

“I am beyond grateful for Representative Mike Simpson’s overwhelming support of Idaho’s Law Enforcement by providing a Community Funded Project. He saw the desperate need for overhauled childcare and early childhood education to better suit Idaho’s Law Enforcement families. I am honored to be a part of a solution that will change the trajectory of policing for men and women in Idaho,” said Angelie Hoxie, Former Idaho State Police Detective.

“By recognizing the importance of investing in our local law enforcement, Representative Mike Simpson, has demonstrated his understanding of the critical role they play in maintaining peace and security. This funding will undoubtedly bolster our policing, providing them with the necessary resources to protect and serve our community with even greater efficiency and effectiveness,” said Tommy Ahlquist, CEO of Ball Ventures Ahlquist.

This funding will be used to construct a childcare center for law enforcement officers in the Treasure Valley in Idaho. Additionally, this project will provide safe and secure childcare and education coverage that matches the needs of law enforcement families and would meet a widely acknowledged need within Idaho law enforcement. Funding for the Treasure Valley Law Enforcement Childcare Center project is a part of the Fiscal Year 2024 funding package for the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

This funding package will now go to the full floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.
