Rep. Simpson Secures World Center for Birds of Prey Funding

WASHINGTON— Today, the House Committee on Appropriations voted to advance the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies bill. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson highlighted the inclusion of the Workforce Housing for Critically Endangered Species Recovery project at his request through Community Project Funding (CPF).

“For years, the Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey has needed workforce housing improvements and an updated local access road,” said Rep. Simpson. “With more than 50,000 annual visitors and round-the-clock staff that helps conserve the endangered California condor, this funding is essential. I am proud to support this valuable project.”

“Once again, Idaho is taking the lead in species recovery. Through this Community Investment Grant, our dedicated propagation staff at The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey will be able to meet the needs of North America's most critically endangered raptor,” said Chris N. Parish, President and CEO of The Peregrine Fund.

“We are incredibly fortunate to house the world's largest captive breeding program for Critically Endangered California Condors in Idaho. This wouldn't be possible without leadership from conservation champions like Congressman Mike Simpson,” said Dirk Kempthorne, former Idaho Governor.

This funding will be used to rebuild seven housing units, repair the only access road, and purchase backup generators to maintain uninterrupted power to sensitive systems. Funding for the Workforce Housing for Critically Endangered Species Recovery project is a part of the Fiscal Year 2024 funding package for the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

This funding package will now go to the full floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.
