Rep. Simpson's Statement on Government Funding

WASHINGTON— Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson – Chairman of the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee – voted in favor of H.R. 6363, the Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, 2024, a stop-gap funding measure that keeps the government open and funded. This legislation extends appropriations and authorities under the jurisdiction of four Appropriations Subcommittees through January 19, 2024, and the other eight Subcommittees through February 2, 2024.

“While I firmly believe Congress should be focused on passing all appropriations bills one at a time and on time, the House must prioritize the needs of the American people and keep our government open,” said Rep. Simpson. “Government shutdowns are never the way to govern, and a shutdown would prevent Congress from getting back to regular order. I applaud Speaker Johnson for his leadership and willingness to continue our work in passing fiscally responsible appropriations bills. I strongly support enacting bills that reduce federal spending, balance the budget, and get our economy on a sustainable, healthy path for the future.”

The measure was approved with a vote of 336-95. This funding package will advance to the Senate for further consideration.
