Rep. Simpson Supports House Passage of Pro-Law Enforcement Legislation

WASHINGTON— This National Police Week, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson voted in favor of several critical pieces of pro-law enforcement legislation that highlight support for America’s brave men and women in blue.

“National Police Week is a time to honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day,” said Rep. Simpson. “Law enforcement officers in Idaho and nationwide protect and serve our communities, and they deserve our utmost respect and appreciation. Unfortunately, in recent years, the American people have seen rampant crime, border chaos, and a destructive anti-law enforcement movement. I was proud to vote in favor of these bills and resolutions to show our support for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.”

National Police Week legislation includes:

  • H.Res.1210 – A resolution condemning the Biden border crisis and the tremendous burdens law enforcement officers face as a result.
  • H.Res.1213 – A resolution regarding violence against law enforcement officers.
  • H.R.7343 – Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act.
    • This legislation requires ICE to detain any illegal immigrant who has been charged with or convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer until the individual is removed from the country.
  • H.R.8146 – Police Our Border Act.
    • This legislation requires the Attorney General to report to Congress on how the Biden border crisis affects law enforcement at various levels.
  • H.R.7530 – DC Crimes Act of 2024.
    • This legislation asserts Congressional control over the District of Columbia by prohibiting the D.C. Council from pursuing soft-on-crime sentencing policy.
  • H.R.354 – Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act.
    • This legislation expands the LEOSA exemption to allow qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry firearms on state, local, and private property otherwise open to the public and also extends the exemption to magazine capacity and would allow active and retired law enforcement officers to access these Federal facilities without disarming or securing their firearms elsewhere.
  • H.R.7581 – Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act.
    • This legislation ensures adequate data collection to address the rise in anti-police attacks. Specifically, the legislation supports law enforcement officers by:
      • Increasing the categories of information that can be voluntarily reported regarding anti-police attacks, including the intention and coordination of perpetrators.
      • Directing the Justice Department to explore adding escalatory aggression to its reports; shedding light on the mental health and stress-related impacts of aggressive activity or trauma on law enforcement.
      • Exploring the availability and extent.
