Congressman Simpson's Update

February 18th, 2022

National Salute to Veterans Patients Week

During this year's National Salute to Veterans Patients Week, I want to give a special thanks to you, our nation's veterans.  Veterans have made tremendous sacrifices to preserve our way of life, and the American people are forever indebted to the men and women who have served our nation.

We will not forget your service and the sacrifices you have made for freedom - both at home and abroad.

Thank you!

Upholding Congress' Commitment to Veterans

Veterans of the United States military have fought and sacrificed to protect our freedoms and way of life.  Just as they have served our nation in times of need, we have a duty to remember them in their time of need.  I am proud to support the veterans who have served in defense of our freedoms, and I am pleased to share some of the progress Congress has made in recent years in support of them.

During the 117th Congress, a number of bills have passed in the House of Representatives with my support:

  • H.R. 2911 - VA Transparency & Trust Act of 2021.  This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to submit to Congress a plan for spending COVID-19 relief funds, requires regular updates on that plan, and requires a Government Accountability Office report reviewing the expenditures of those funds.  This bill became law on November 22, 2021, and will ensure that VA is utilizing all COVID-19 funding in the most effective way possible.
  • H.R. 958 - Protecting Moms Who Served Act.  This bill requires VA to implement a maternity care coordination program and requires VA to work with community care partners to provide support for pregnant and post-partum veterans.  The reality of many VA medical centers is that they are not well-equipped to deliver maternal health care, and this legislation would help them do just that.
  • H.R. 1257 - Homeless Veterans CREDIT Act.  This bill requires VA to conduct a comprehensive study on access to, and use and effects of, financial and credit counseling for homeless veterans.

I encourage Idaho's Second Congressional District veterans to contact me and share their thoughts on issues facing our nations veterans.

Simpson Joins Colleagues in Investigating DHS Transportation of Illegal Immigrants

President Biden’s approach to border security has been a disaster from the beginning. Americans have seen record levels of human trafficking, fentanyl, and criminals crossing the border and now reports of illegal immigrants being flown into U.S. cities.

It is clear the Biden Administration is failing miserably at our southern border. House Republicans are committed to holding the Administration accountable and demanding transparency for these reckless policies.

I joined my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee on a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding answers to reports of illegal immigrants being transported and released by DHS across the U.S. interior. Read the complete letter here.

Simpson Demands Plan from Biden Administration to Return to Normal Life

As the rate of new COVID-19 cases continues to fall, it is clear that federal mandates handed down by the Biden Administration are doing more harm than good.

This Administration has repeatedly told Americans to ‘just follow the science.’  It is now President Biden’s turn to ‘follow the science’ and develop a plan for our country to get back to normal life.

I am joining 70 House Republicans to demand that the President:

  • Establish concrete goals to exit the Public Health Emergency (PHE);
  • Identify ALL emergency measures and regulatory flexibilities enacted during the PHE;
  • Provide estimates of the projected costs to the federal government and to states; and
  • Identify programs the Biden Administration recommends making permanent.
