Simpson, Risch Lead Effort to Prohibit ESA Sage-Grouse Listing

This week I joined Senator Risch in leading a bicameral letter to Senate and House leadership urging the continued Endangered Species Act (ESA) greater sage-grouse listing prohibition be maintained in a potential end-of-year spending package. The letter, also signed by Senator Mike Crapo and Congressman Russ Fulcher, notes the long-standing provision of sage-grouse listing prohibition in spending bills and the disruptive nature of continual litigation on state and local communities’ effective and collaborative sage-grouse conservation plans.

"I have not fought this long and hard to prohibit a sage-grouse listing only for those efforts to be thwarted in a potential end-of-year spending package. An ESA listing for the sage-grouse would close off thousands of acres of land across the West to recreation, grazing, and other activities and would undermine the collaborative work being done to manage sage-grouse habitats at a local level by the individuals who work, live, and recreate on Idaho’s land. Sage-grouse conservation remains a priority for Idaho and other western states, and I will continue to fight for local-decision making on this important issue."

Speaking with American Immigration Business Coalition

Today, I spoke to the American Business Immigration Coalition on the importance of passing the Farm Workforce Modernization Act in the Senate. This bill is our best chance to provide needed relief to American families as food prices soar, and to farmers in Idaho and across the nation as they navigate a real workforce crisis. It's time for the Senate to get this done!

I am grateful to Senator Crapo and his efforts to get the FWMA through the Senate. Please contact him and tell him to pass this critically important legislation.

National Veterans and Family Month

In November we celebrated National Veterans and Military Families Month.

Veterans, active servicemembers, and their families know what it means to serve and sacrifice. Our country is better today because of that! I extend my deepest gratitude to Idaho's veterans and their families.

Concerns at the Southern Border

As the Trump-era border policy known as Title 42 expires this month, Biden's Department of Homeland Security anticipates between 9,000 and 14,000 immigrants attempting to cross the Southern Border. This number is more than double the current number of crossings.

A Republican-led House will prioritize securing the border and gaining control over this crisis.
