On August 22, 1972, a bill to designate 756,00 acres as the Sawtooth Recreation Area and to "assure the preservation and protection of the natural, scenic, historic, pastoral, and fish and wildlife values, and to provide for the enhancement of recreational values associated therewith" became law.
Championed by Idaho Senators Frank Church and Len Jordan, the Sawtooth National Recreation Area has remained an iconic place in Idaho's wilderness. The stunning landscape offers incredible opportunities for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, camping, and other recreational activities.
Throughout my time in Congress, I have supported efforts to preserve the Sawtooth NRA and places like this in the hopes that future generations will enjoy them for decades to come.
