Pearl Harbor Remembrance

80 years ago, our country was "deliberately and suddenly attacked" and life for many Americans changed forever. On December 7th, 1941 over 2,400 service members and civilians were killed. May the their sacrifice never fade from the memory of our nation.
Across the state, Idahoans joined together to honor those who lost their lives on that infamous day - including 11 Idahoans.
In Pocatello, the Bannock County Veterans Services revived the old tradition of tossing flower petals into the Portneuf River. This tradition was started by Christopher Harame, a veteran and Pocatello native who was aboard the USS Detroit during the attack on Dec. 7th.

The Rigby High School Marching Band represented Idaho in Honolulu as a part of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. This parade is held annually to "Always Remember" those who were willing to serve and to sacrifice their lives.

Simpson Voted for National Defense Authorization Act
On Tuesday, December 7th, I voted to support the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 after negotiations with the Senate successfully removed several problematic provisions - including a requirement for women to enter the selective service.
In fulfilling Congress’ constitutional duty to provide for the common defense, the FY 2022 NDAA rejects proposed cuts to defense programs from the Biden Administration and contains several provisions vital to the warfighter and the Department of Defense. Among other provisions, the bill:
- Authorizes a 2.7% pay increase for service members
- Provides funding to improve military family housing
- Includes funding to counter Russian and Chinese aggression
- Holds the Biden Administration accountable for its disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan
