Simpson Announces 2022 Service Academy Nominations

Candidates who are nominated for potential appointment to one of our nation's four service academies show excellence in academics, volunteering in their communities, and participation in extra-curricular activities.

This year's nominees are some of Idaho's best and brightest students, and we are lucky to have them represent our state. To be selected in this group is no small feat, and I am impressed by each nominee's commitment and drive to serve our country at these prestigious academies.

Those who wish to attend a U.S. Service Academy must display excellence in a variety of activities. In addition, prospective candidates must obtain a Congressional Nomination. Addressing Workforce Needs in Agriculture and Other Idaho Industries

Idahoans have have been asking me to fix our immigration laws since my first day in Congress. Perhaps the greatest need for immigration reform lies in our country's workforce - especially in industries like agriculture, landscaping, construction and others.

I am a proud sponsor of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which will revise the H-2A visa program by creating a merit-based agriculture immigration system and provide economic stability to our rural communities.

In addition to addressing H-2A agriculture worker visa reform, I have cosponsored H.R. 389, the H-2B Returning Worker Exception Act. H-2B visa employers have struggled more than ever during the pandemic to find workers. This bill would allow returning non-agriculture workers to be exempt from the H-2B visa cap. The U.S. routinely allows this exemption on a one-year basis - this bill would provide a permanent fix to the issue.

The Congressional Award

In 1979, Congress established the Congressional Award as a way to recognize initiative, service and achievement in young people.

Idahoans between the ages of 14 and 24 can register and earn the prestigious Bronze, Silver or Gold Certificates and Medals. Each level involves goal setting in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.
