Reducing Regulatory Burdens

Since the Biden Administration took office, I have been alarmed at efforts to drastically expand federal regulatory authority, often at the expense of states, localities, and individuals.

That is why I cosponsored H.R. 968 - Lessening Regulatory Costs and Establishing a Federal Regulatory Budget Act.

This bill takes several important steps in reigning in the federal bureaucracy by codifying a Trump-era executive order to remove unnecessary or outdated regulations when a new significant regulation is issued. It would also manage the cost of planned regulations through an annual budgeting process.

Congress is ultimately entrusted to examine whether  regulations are appropriate and provide oversight over how federal agencies are spending taxpayer dollars.  H.R. 968 is an important step toward limiting executive overreach.

National Parks Week 2022

From Yellowstone National Park to the Everglades, our national parks are among our nation’s most treasured assets and have been rightly called “America's Best Idea.” Not only do our national parks drive the economies of gateway communities, but they also provide hundreds of millions of Americans each year the opportunity to get outdoors and learn about the places and people of our great country.

Idaho is home to several national park units including Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve, City of Rocks, and the Minidoka Historic Site. As a longtime supporter of National Parks and the Great American Outdoors Act, I will continue to use my seat in Congress to protect these special places.

Biden's Border Crisis

Like many of the issues facing our country, President Biden's crisis at the southern border has only worsened since he took office.

In March 2022, there were 221,303 migrant encounters - a 542% increase from March 2020 and the 13th straight month with more than 150,00 recorded encounters at the border.

President Biden’s border crisis is a serious problem that demands an urgent response. In the absence of Administration action, Republicans in Congress have worked to ensure the federal agencies involved at our southern border have the resources they desperately need.

An out-of-control border also presents serious public health concerns as fentanyl flows into our country at skyrocketing rates.

We need a solution that stops this deadly flow of drugs from entering our country and authorizes CBP to take the necessary actions to protect our communities. That is why I have cosponsored H.R. 7359, the Stop Fentanyl Border Crossings Act. This bill would extend Title 42, which allows for the expulsion of migrants on the basis of Covid-19 health concerns, beyond May 23, 2022 and authorizes turning back migrants to prevent the smuggling of illicit drugs.

I am pleased to cosponsor this timely piece of legislation that addresses the ongoing border crises.

In the District

As an avid painter, I thoroughly enjoy hosting the Congressional Art Contest each year for Idaho's 2nd District high school students. This last week, I had the privilege of meeting with the talented participants of this years contest.

For students interested in participating in future contests, please find information on my website.

I was grateful for the opportunity to visit with the wonderful team at the Idaho Women's Business Center in Twin Falls. Idaho's four centers offer essential resources for women interested in starting businesses. I am proud to support the IWBC!

Over the course of the last few months, the Idaho Trucking Association has brought the trucking experience to high school students across the state. I was fortunate enough to test out their simulator.

If recent experiences have taught us anything, it's that the United States needs more truck drivers. With the support of ITA, Idaho is leading the way in educating our young people about this important trade.
