Congressman Simpson's Update

September 11th, 2021

Anniversary of 9/11

It is hard to imagine how 20 years have passed since the devastating attacks on September 11th. On that day, violent extremists sought to destroy our way of life - but they did not know how resilient the American people and the American spirit are.

I am constantly inspired by the memories of true heroes who - on that day and for many days after - ran to America's defense.

My hope is that we never forget the lives lost, the heroes who sacrificed, and the country that united together as a result of September 11th, 2001.

Afghanistan

Over the last several weeks, we watched a nightmare situation unfold in Afghanistan. Certainly, our troops could not stay in Afghanistan forever - but there was no reason for the chaos that ensued. That chaos can only be attributed to the lack of preparation and leadership from the Biden Administration.

Our office is engaged in efforts to help Idahoans and our Afghan allies safely evacuate Afghanistan. Please reach out to my district offices with any help related to the evacuation efforts.

Remembering our Fallen Heroes

Like all of you, I was heartbroken by the news that 13 of our service men and women were killed in Afghanistan. Undoubtedly, they are American heroes.

I have been inspired by the way Americans have come together to honor their sacrifice. Currently, legislation is moving in the House of Representatives to award posthumously the Congressional Gold medal to each of those soldiers - I hope Congress acts quickly to give them this honor.

In Idaho, Cpl. Phillip Baldwin of Fort Hall, worked to organize an escort for fallen Marine Rylee McCullum as he made his way home to Jackson, Wyoming.

In the District

Over the last few weeks, I have enjoyed travelling around Idaho's Second District listening to and visiting with community members and businesses.

Speaking to the Idaho Falls City Club about Salmon recovery and my Columbia Basin Initiative.

At the Salmon Festival in Stanley, Idaho.

Perpetua Resources Mine where we discussed access to critical and rare minerals, which are essential in a number of applications throughout our economy.
