Limit, Save, Grow Act

This week the House of Representatives voted on and passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act. The purpose of this bill is to responsibly increase the federal debt limit while also addressing excessive deficit spending over recent years.

Defaulting on our debt is not an option. It would be catastrophic for the economy and devastating for many Americans. Yet we can plan now to grow the economy by limiting future spending in very straightforward ways. This includes redirecting billions of dollars in unspent COVID funds. In all, these actions would save taxpayers $4.8 trillion over the next decade.

Republicans have a plan. It's time for President Biden to come to the table.

National Park Week

As a lifelong Idahoan, and Chair of the Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, I deeply value our public lands. Access to these resources is one of the best things about living in our state. In addition, National Park tourism supports hundreds of Idaho jobs in gateway communities and $50.8 million in economic benefit.

The National Park Service is an important federal partner in preserving access to the 7 official National Park Sites across Idaho. I will continue working to ensure that land management agencies like the National Park Service are good neighbors and have the tools to manage our lands effectively and efficiently.

Introducing Mobile Office Hours

As your Representative in Congress, it is important to me that residents of Idaho's 2nd Congressional District have the resources they need to navigate the complexities of federal agencies and benefits. To ensure that we are as accessible as possible, my staff will hold regular mobile office hours at locations across the 2nd District.

Starting Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, residents of Idaho's 2nd Congressional District can meet with my staff at a mobile office hours location near them, ask questions, and learn how we can help when issues arise.

Simpson Announces Jessica Hammond as Veteran and Military Outreach Coordinator in Twin Falls District Office

This week I announced the recent hiring of Jessica Hammond through the Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program, a two-year fellowship opportunity for veterans to work in congressional offices. Hammond will work in my Twin Falls district office and help military and veteran constituents successfully navigate interactions with federal, state, and local government agencies.

Hammond was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. Prior to accepting this fellowship, she served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2016–2020 as a Bulk Fuel Specialist at Camp Pendleton, California. After being discharged in 2020, Hammond worked as a wind turbine technician for Vestas American Wind Technology Inc. in a rural farm town in Indiana. Hammond is pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Purdue University Global and is looking forward to giving back to her fellow veterans in this new role.

We are fortunate to have Jessica advocating on behalf of veterans and military personnel in our district. After her incredible military service, she understands the needs of veterans and is ready to assist in casework and other areas of need.

This Week in Washington

The Idaho cattle industry ranks 13th in the U.S. for cattle and calves inventory — with more than 2.1 million cows. I always enjoy the opportunity to visit with the Idaho Cattle Association to discuss ways we can better support this important industry.

Access to our outdoor resources is one of the best things about living in our state. And frankly, it’s good for the soul! I appreciated the opportunity to join Trust for Public Lands this week and talk about preserving access to our public lands.
