Last week, House Republicans passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act — a bill designed to responsibly raise the debt ceiling while also creating a plan to decrease spending and save taxpayer dollars.
Democrats have led many to believe this legislation will cut spending for important veterans programs. This is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. I've always worked hard to support veterans and service members, and this remains a top priority this Congress.
In recent years, I’ve voted to support a 4.6% pay increase for service members, and increased access to mental health care and suicide prevention. I’ve also supported legislation that directed $55 million to the Department of Veterans Administration to address the disability claims processing backlog and provided disability compensation for 5.7 million veterans and their survivors. In addition, I’ve supported increased access to maternity care for veterans, financial counseling for homeless veterans, therapy animals, and care for those exposed to agent orange or burn pits during their service.
I am committed to working with my House colleagues to keep our promise to our nation's veterans while achieving the goals of the Limit, Save, Grow Act.
