Simpson Urges President Biden to Act on High Fertilizer Prices Washington, D.C. – Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson today joined 96 of his colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden urging him to act on record-high fertilizer prices affecting American farmers going into the spring planting season. “Farmers across Idaho and the country are feeling the burden of higher input costs due to supply chain disruptions and rising energy costs,” said Simpson. “The unprecedented fertilizer prices we see today are placing yet another strain on our vitally important agricultural communities. This Administration must take every action necessary to lower the cost of fertilizer and ensure farmers have reliable access to the resources they need.” Fertilizer prices, which account for more than 30% of a farmer’s expenses, have more than doubled from a year ago, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “Farmers work tirelessly to feed, clothe, and fuel our nation. If fertilizer prices continue to rise, farming operations could be jeopardized and Americans who are already feeling the burden of inflation can expect to pay more at the grocery store. We have a responsibility to ensure our nation’s agriculture sector is thriving and I will continue to urge this Administration to recognize the importance of this issue.” Click HERE to read the full letter and list of signers. |
