Simpson Tells Biden Administration to Act on Baby Formula Shortage

Washington, D.C. – Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson joined over 100 of his House Colleagues in urging President Biden and FDA Commissioner Robert Califf to take immediate action on the nationwide shortage of baby formula which has reached crisis levels in recent weeks. 

“This baby formula shortage is a serious health and safety concern for American families.  It’s time the Biden Administration step up to help parents of young children in this time of critical need,” said Simpson.  “Americans are already hurting from the worst inflation rates in over 40 years as well as ongoing supply chain issues, but this issue is especially urgent—President Biden must act now.”

The letter notes that parents are struggling to keep up with this shortage exacerbated by historic inflation, supply chain shortages, recent formula recalls, and purchase limits set by several store chains.  The impact this shortage may have on parents who participate in public benefits, such as WIC, and rely on the program’s supply of baby formula for their infant’s nutritional needs is also a growing concern.

The letter asks President Biden and Commissioner Califf a series of questions to prompt swift action and provide solutions to the American families who urgently need them.
