WASHINGTON— Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson issued the following statement in response to voting to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“It is crystal clear Secretary Mayorkas’ failed leadership has worsened the crisis at our southern border,” said Rep. Simpson. “Secretary Mayorkas has repeatedly made false statements to Congress and willfully refused to comply with federal immigration laws. In doing so, Mayorkas has added fuel to the border fire and put countless American lives at risk. Throughout my time in Congress, I have never witnessed such blatant disregard for constitutional duties.

“I applaud the House Committee on Homeland Security for conducting a nearly year-long investigation into the consequences of Mayorkas' role in this unprecedented crisis. After three years of failing to secure the border, my Republican colleagues and I took necessary action and voted to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable.”

The measure was approved with a vote of 214-213 and will now advance to the Senate.
