Rep. Simpson Votes to Keep Government Open and Working for the American People, Secures Permanent Pay Fix for Wildland Firefighters
Washington,
March 11, 2025
WASHINGTON—Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson supported the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act. This legislation keeps the federal government funded and operational until September 30th, 2025. This bill also includes a key provision authored by Congressman Simpson—Chairman of the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee—that prioritizes funding for Wildland Fire Management, including permanently addressing wildland firefighter pay. “Passing this continuing resolution keeps the government open for hardworking Americans while allowing Congress and the Trump administration to maintain momentum and deliver America First policies that the American people overwhelmingly voted for,” said Rep. Simpson. “I am pleased that this bill secures key victories, including the largest pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers in over 40 years and a permanent pay fix for our brave wildland firefighters—a provision I was proud to fight for. Shutdowns are always bad politics and policy, and negotiations take a cooperating partner from the other side of the aisle. While I'm disappointed that most of my Democrat colleagues refused to support this measure, their opposition once again highlights their hostility to President Trump and his agenda.” Congressman Simpson's Interior Appropriations bill included a permanent pay fix for federal wildland firefighters and passed the House in July 2024. Rep. Simpson also released an op-ed on why a permanent pay fix is needed.
The Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act passed with a vote of 217-213. The full text of the bill is available here. |
