Simpson Statement on Democrat Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. – Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson today made the following statement on the passage of Democrats’ so-called “Inflation Reduction Act.”

“No matter the name of the legislation, this bill will do anything but reduce inflation. Americans are experiencing the worst inflation this country has seen in 40 years – skyrocketing prices at the pump, grocery stores, and everywhere else are negatively affecting families, small businesses, and the economy at large. What would actually help Idahoans at this time is a reduction of government spending, not an astronomical increase,” said Simpson.

“Idahoans don’t want to see their tax dollars supporting $745 billion in new spending on the Green New Deal, Obamacare expansion, an emboldened IRS, and other programs that harm families and businesses. This bill will do exactly that while increasing taxes for all, hindering domestic energy capabilities, and raising costs of new prescription drugs. It’s alarming how willing Democrats are to spend more and worsen the current crisis we’re in while telling the American people that somehow this will help."

Congressman Simpson voted against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5376 which passed the U.S. Senate by a party-line vote on August 7, 2022, and the House of Representatives by a party-line vote today.
