WASHINGTON—Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson highlighted the inclusion of $9,367,000 in funding for the Soda Springs US-30 Reconstruction Project in Soda Springs, Idaho, at his request through Community Project Funding (CPF) in the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. “Reconstructing the pavement of US Highway 30 through Soda Springs has long been a priority for the state of Idaho,” said Rep. Simpson. “This project will provide essential infrastructure improvements, enhancing public safety. Additionally, it will attract more visitors, which will help keep Soda Springs' economy thriving. Since this has been a concern, I am proud to advocate for this project that will bring necessary improvements and benefit the people of Soda Springs and throughout the state.” “ITD is grateful for Congressman Simpson's assistance in securing funding for this important project in the heart of Soda Springs. This is a great example of coordinating transportation improvements that benefit the city, county, and the state in a single project,” said Zak Johnson, ITD District 5 Planning and Scoping Engineer. This funding would be used to reconstruct the base and surface pavement of US-30, which is showing deterioration as it runs through the town of Soda Springs, Idaho. The project will overlay thin spots and widen the road to accommodate a center lane to address safety concerns with an eastbound left turn into the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office. This project will also replace old and failing water pipe connectors during construction that are located within the roadway section. This project is included in Idaho’s fiscal year 2025 to fiscal year 2031 approved State Transportation Improvement Plan Despite claims that CPF projects are "wasteful earmarks," Community Project Funding gives Members of Congress like Congressman Simpson the opportunity to bring Idaho tax dollars back home for Idaho priorities. These projects fill a clear and present need in communities across Idaho and enjoy broad community support. The federal dollars designated for CPF projects exist within existing budget limits. Rather than that money going to fund projects in different states, CPF projects give Idahoans a critical voice in determining where budgeted funding goes. As Idaho’s only appropriator, Rep. Simpson has a unique opportunity to fight for Idaho’s priorities and ensure Idahoans’ hard-earned tax dollars return to Idaho. The Soda Springs US-30 Reconstruction Project is a part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This measure has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee. |
